Silica sol for fiber dyeing and finishing is a water-based colloid mainly composed of nano-scale silica (SiO₂), which plays an important role in the fiber dyeing and finishing process. Here is its detailed introduction:

Characteristics

  • Small particle size and uniform distribution: The particle size is usually between 5 and 100 nanometers, with good dispersibility, which can form a uniform coating and improve the performance of textiles.
  • High stability: It features a high degree of coalescence stability and dynamic stability, maintaining performance under a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions, preventing sedimentation and stratification of the slurry during storage, and ensuring the stability of the textile production process and product quality.
  • Strong surface activity: The particle surface is rich in hydroxyl groups (-OH), which can adsorb dye molecules through hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces and other actions. It can also form hydrogen bonds or undergo chemical reactions with the hydroxyl groups on cellulose fibers, thereby enhancing the dye fixation rate.
  • Moderate viscosity: The moderate viscosity of silica sol enables the paste to have good fluidity on textiles, allowing it to evenly penetrate into the fiber gaps of the textiles and fill the voids between the fibers, making the textiles tighter and smoother.

Function

  • Enhance dyeing performance: Its high specific surface area and pore structure enable dyes to adhere more evenly to the fiber surface, improving color fastness and uniformity, reducing dye loss, and enhancing the dyeing effect. For instance, in the dyeing of cotton fibers, after adding silica sol, the color fastness of dyed cotton fabrics can be increased by 15% to 25%.
  • Improving fabric hand feel: As a softening finishing agent, it can form a uniform and fine silicone gel film on the surface of textiles, increase the softness of textiles, and improve hand feel.
  • Enhance the physical properties of fabrics: It can enhance the strength and durability of textiles. By forming a uniform coating, it increases the bonding force between textile fibers and improves the fabric's tear resistance and wear resistance. At the same time, it can also enhance the water resistance and stain resistance of fabrics, making textiles easier to clean and maintain.

Application process
